South Lake Tahoe, CA (July 19, 2013) – SLTPD Officers arrested a 33-year-old Mountain View, California resident for indecent exposure at the free Summer Series Concert at Lakeview Commons yesterday evening. Two officers were already present at Lakeview Commons when several people contacted them for help. People in the crowd directed the officers to Ajit Madiah. Witnesses explained that Madiah was angry and challenging a man to fight and had exposed his genitals to the crowd while screaming angrily. Officers first contacted the man Madiah was challenging to fight. This man was Mike MacKenzie, a 58-year-old school teacher visiting Lakeview Commons with his wife and children from Merced, California. MacKenzie indicated that he was watching the concert and enjoying his night taking photos of the lake, sunset and concert. MacKenzie stated that for unknown reasons Madiah confronted him about taking pictures of the sunset, started calling him names, screaming profanities and displaying an aggressive, agitated and confrontational demeanor.

MacKenzie walked away from Madiah, trying to avoid him and to avert the potential of having any problems with him. Madiah followed MacKenzie and approached him a second time in a different area. Madiah again confronted him in an aggressive manner, and took a fighting posture toward him. MacKenzie stated he tried to reason and talk to Madiah. The attempt was futile. Madiah is then alleged to have dropped his pants, exposed his genitals to him and the community, which consisted of approximately 10 to 15 adults and children, while screaming profanities. Several other upset witnesses corroborated the same account and desired to make a private persons arrest. Officers accepted their citizen’s arrest and booked Madiah into the custody of the El Dorado County jail in South Lake Tahoe for misdemeanor indecent exposure. His bail is set at $1,500.

Officers had previous contact with Madiah just last week (7/11/2013) at the concert at Lakeview Commons. At that time, officers warned Madiah for a similar disturbance, because he was trying to pick a fight with several patrons at the concert. At that time officers directed Madiah to leave the area or be arrested for a public disturbance. He left the area at that time without causing any further problems.
