Gardnerville, Nev. – Great Basin Management Type 2 Team, operating under Incident Commander Mike Whalen, reports fire fighters made progress today even though the fire increased in size to 21,337 acres, with almost all of the acreage increase on the north side of the incident.  The fire is now 25-percent contained with a revised full containment target date of July 15.

Winds moderated slightly this afternoon, but the fire has remained extremely active on the northeast side for the past 48-hours.  The fire ran through the Slater Mine area on Sunday burning several old structures, but no further structures have been reported to be destroyed.  Plans are in place for positioning additional ground resources along the north end of the fire on Tuesday, July 9, should it continue to move in that direction.

Approximately 722 firefighter personnel are assigned to the incident.  One firefighter injury (twisted knee) was reported yesterday.

Governor Brian Sandoval was briefed on the Bison Fire at the Incident Command Post today along with the Nevada Department of Emergency Management Director and their staff.

East Fork Fire Protection District Fire Chief Todd Carlini reports that the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners has declared a State of Emergency for the Bison Fire. This allows the County to request additional State resources and assistance, as well as federal assistance, should the Governor deem a State of Emergency for the State of Nevada.

The following road closures to non-residents are currently in place for:

* Pine Nut Road at the intersection of Out-R-Way

*East Valley Road at Grandview

*Sunrise Pass Road at Coyote Rock

*Brunswick Canyon Road

*Mexican Dam Road

*Sunrise Pass Road at Artesia Road
