Afternoon Winds Hamper Fire Fighting Efforts on the Bison Fire

Gardnerville, Nev. – Late afternoon winds are playing havoc with firefighting efforts.  The fire is making a run to the northeast and is burning through the Slater Mine Area.  Commercial structures have been lost but the number of structures is unknown at this time.  Due to the fire behavior, containment has dropped from 30% to 15%.
No injuries have been reported at this time however, firefighters are reporting a large number of local traffic in the area and are asking that if you do not have to be in the area please stay away and stay safe. Watching fire is safer from a distance.

At the moment Pine Nut Road remains closed to non-residents at the intersection of Out-R-Way and more road closures may follow.  A voluntary evacuation notice remains in effect for about 20 structures in the area.

Fire information will continue to be updated at www.sierrafront.net, www.inciweb.org, and on the Sierra Front Wildfire Cooperators and Douglas County’s pages on Facebook.  A fire information phone line is also being staffed from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 775-782-1428.
