Gardnerville, NV—Sierra Front Management Type III Team, operating under Incident Commander Paul Washam, reports that the Bison Fire has grown to over 7,000 acres. High sustained winds and very low humidity have made the fire extremely difficult to contain. An increasing number of fire crews and equipment will continue today to build containment lines, with an emphasis on firefighter safety and minimizing impacts to structures. The fire is now 20-percent contained.
The fire has been pushed by steady winds primarily northeast and has moved over the crest of the Pine Nut Mountains in two spots south of Mt. Siegel. Contingency plans are in place for positioning of both air and ground resources should the fire move farther east.
A portable Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) base has been established at the Minden/Tahoe Airport to service five SEAT aircraft working the fire. Two Cal Fire S-2 Air Tankers will be operating out of the Stead Air Tanker Base.

Fire officials continue to coordinate with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and the Washoe
Tribe as significant cultural resources are threatened. They are also coordinating with the
Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) due to the severe threat the fire is posing to highly critical Sage Grouse habitat in Pine Nut Mountains.
No injuries have been reported and no structures have been lost.
Pine Nut Road remains closed at the intersection of Out-R-Way to non-residents. There is still a voluntary evacuation notice for about 20 residences in the area.
Due to the complex nature of this fire, the Great Basin Type II Incident Management Team (Whalen) has been ordered.
