Remember, an election is taking place on Tuesday, Jan. 4, to determine who will win the California First State Senate District seat race between Ken Cooley and Ted Gaines, as a result of the Nov. 2 election.
El Dorado County Registrar of Voters William E. Schultz said he would like to thank all voters who participated in the Nov. 2 General Election for voting both at the polling places and the vote-by-mail process.
There now is another election scheduled for Jan. 4 to determine who will fill the Senate District 1 seat. In order to provide voters with an affordable, excellent election process and also save precious budget dollars Schultz said he is going to be combining more polling places into Super Polling places for some and a Vote by Mail precinct for others. A Super Polling place simply means combining more than one polling place into the same facility. So voters at one of these type polling places will have an election worker directing them to a proper voting station.
All registered voters are eligible to vote by mail, and a growing percentage of voters are taking advantage of this convenient method of voting. All vote-by-mail ballots are verified by the Elections Office to ensure “one person – one vote” before they are counted; and if the ballot is returned before Election Day, it will be counted in the first results posted once the polls close on election evening. For this election, with the possible weather problems local communities might experience, vote-by-mail might be a possible alternative.
Voters may drop off mail ballots at the vote-by-mail ballot box located at 2850 Fairlane Court in front of Building “C” at the El Dorado County Government Center, Placerville campus. No postage is necessary and it is drive-up convenience. Voters may also drop off ballots at the Recorder-Clerk Office at 3368 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.
The public may request a vote-by-mail ballot by filling out the application on the back cover of the Sample Ballot booklet. Or call the Elections Office at 530-621-7480.
