South Lake Tahoe, CA…At 11:00am on Monday, November 26th two new police officers will be joined the South Lake Tahoe Police Department with a brief swearing-in ceremony conducted by Chief Brian Uhler. Both are veteran officers of California law enforcement, who have passed through a highly competitive process to be selected for employment at SLTPD.
Jason Cheney has been a peace officer in California for over 11 years, and comes to South Lake Tahoe from the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department. He is 33 years old and has been married to his wife Julie for 6 years. They have two daughters, Syren and Raylen. Jason enjoys spending time with his family, the outdoors and physical fitness. Jason is very excited to become a part of the South Lake Tahoe community and looks forward to serving its citizens and visitors.
Kevin Whalen comes from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department, where he was a patrol sergeant. He is the recipient of the H. Thomas Guerry Award for Valor, and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Medal of Valor. Kevin, his wife and his two sons, ages 9 and 10, are new residents of the Lake Tahoe Basin. He and his family are already enjoying what they love most: skiing, music, youth sports and being in the Sierras. Kevin is looking forward to being a part of the SLTPD, serving and protecting those who visit, live, and work in the City of South Lake Tahoe.
