WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif., Dec. 17, 2010 Raley’s Family of Fine Stores announced today a recall of all HDC whole cantaloupes sold at its Raley’s, Bel Air, Nob Hill and Food Source stores following notification by the Food and Drug Administration of a positive test result for salmonella on HDC cantaloupes tested at Raley’s Distribution Center.

“Once we were notified by the FDA of the test results, we immediately pulled all implicated cantaloupes from all of our stores and destroyed them. We also isolated all implicated cantaloupes at our distribution center and destroyed them,” said Ashley Zepernick, a spokesperson for Raley’s. She added, “We ask anyone who has recently purchased whole cantaloupe from our stores to return it to their local store for a full refund.”

The cantaloupes in question were available in store from December 4-17. Following the confirmation of the positive test result for salmonella, the FDA issued a Class 1 recall for HDC cantaloupes. Stores removed the product from the shelves on Dec. 17 and any cantaloupe currently on the shelf is not affected by the recall. There have been no reported illnesses.
