Reno, NV…Our son Granger, who is now almost 15 years old, has never been on a Mission Trip. He has always wanted to go on one, but it was never affordable. His High School Youth Group has a Mission Trip planned for July 22-28th. They are heading to the the streets of Downtown and South Los Angeles to help and feed the homeless and those less fortunate. He has been on a waiting list with three kids ahead of him so we thought his chances were nill. Well after alot of praying….Guess what? I got a call last week and he made the list! He is so excited to reach out and do God’s work for 6 days in July! A note from Granger is below.
“We will be driving down on July 22nd and returning late on the 28th. We will be going through an organization called Center for Student Missions (www.csm.org) who exists to provide service opportunities in many urban areas around the country. While we are down there we will be serving alongside ministries such as Salvation Army Red Shield (www.losangelesredshield.org), The Midnight Mission (www.midnightmission.org), and The Long Beach Rescue Mission (www.lbrm.org). Our week will be a busy one serving in many different ministries scattered all throughout Downtown and South LA, as well as, a week filled with education for the students as to what life is like in urban areas and how the Lord is working there. This will be 7th trip down to LA and I could not be more excited to see what God has in store. I feel like God is calling me to pursue this Mission Trip…I waited so long for that phone call!
A Note from one of Granger’s Youth Pastor’s, Nathan…”Last year we felt led to double the amount of students we had previously taken to 26 people and this year I am extremely excited to say that we’ll be taking 43 students ranging from 12-18 years old and 13 adult leaders. I cannot begin to describe my excitement as I look at the list of people going this year because I know that God will use this trip to radically change their lives as the serve the community of Los Angeles. The blessing of leading a team of this size is exciting, intimidating, and humbling all rolled into one. As I prepare for this trip I know that it has the power to change not only the students going but the entire youth group at Grace.
Needless to say, as we grow and expand the size of the team that we are taking the cost grows as well. Each member of the team is expected to raise $600 to help cover transportation, food, etc. I know that with each passing year it seems that we’ve all had to tighten the belt more and more but I would like to humbly ask for your help. If you would like to help cover the costs of this amazing trip, please see the attached documents to see how you can help. This trip has helped shape me to be the Pastor, husband, and man that I am today and without your support it would have been possible. I’d like to ask for not only your support financially but in prayer as well. I know that God is working in the lives of all the students and leaders of this team and I humbly ask for your prayers as the trip approaches.”
