Possible IED Thrown Into Marijuana Collective

South Tahoe, CA/NV…On April 19, 2012, about 1015 pm, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, and the Douglas County Bomb Squad responded to a report of a possible improvised explosive device being thrown into a marijuana collective business located at 2314 U.S. Hwy. 50 in South Lake Tahoe.

The investigation revealed an improvised explosive device was thrown into the business through a window causing minor property damage. The device caused a small fire and it’s unclear if it functioned as intended. The business was closed to the public at the time the device was discovered, however there were two employees working inside. Neither of the employees was injured in the incident.

The specific type and intent of the device is not known at this time. The device was removed from the building and rendered safe by the Douglas County Bomb Squad at the scene. The device was booked into evidence for processing and the investigation is ongoing.
