The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a burglar suspect and recovered numerous stolen items from burglary cases out of Storey County. The media will have the opportunity to film the recovered items and conduct interviews with representatives from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Storey County Sheriff’s Office. This will take place at the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division at 1:00 PM today. This is open to the media.
On January 9, 2012, the Storey County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential burglary in the Virginia City Highlands, where numerous guns and ammunition were stolen, along with credit cards, knives, and misc property. One of the suspects used a stolen credit card from the burglary here locally in the Reno-Sparks area. The Storey County Sheriff’s Office did a media release with surveillance photo’s from one of the transactions.
Based upon the media release, the Storey County Sheriff’s Office received a Secret Witness tip identifying Daniel Garcia, a Sun Valley resident, as a possible suspect.
On January 11, 2012, the Storey County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division after the tip was developed. On this same day, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at Garcia’s residence, which is located on the 200 block of Quartz Lane in Sun Valley. Garcia was subsequently arrested for an outstanding warrant and being in possession of drug paraphernalia during this contact. While at the residence, Deputies saw evidence stemming from the Storey County Sheriff’s Office burglary cases. Detectives from both agencies successfully served a search warrant at the residence and located 10 guns (in include rifles and handguns), ammunition, knives, jewelry and other miscellaneous property stemming from Storey County burglaries.
Garcia was add-booked for Possession of Stolen Property and 10 counts of Ex-Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Garcia’s bail has been set at $101,140.
Detectives believe there are multiple suspects and are currently looking for a vehicle used during the commission of a crime described as a possible 1998 to 2003 white Ford F-250 or F-350, 4-door, with running lights above the cab.
