The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has successfully completed their share of the “Joining Forces” DUI Enforcement Campaign. “Joining Forces” is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement in four areas: DUI, seat belts, and speed and pedestrian safety.

The Sheriff’s Office joined the Sparks Police Department, Reno Police Department, University of Nevada Police Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol in this enforcement campaign.

Sheriff’s Office personnel assigned to this campaign initiated 273 traffic stops and arrested 10 drivers for DUI. Additionally, of the 273 traffic stops, there were 6 drug related arrests, 8 fugitives from justice arrests, 77 drivers cited for speeding and 37 drivers license associated violations. Registration, equipment, other moving violations, seat belt and no insurance violations totaled 141. Twelve (12) drivers were cited for using a cell phone. All other miscellaneous citations and warnings totaled 97.

Although a driver may be stopped for one violation, during the deputy’s investigation, several other violations could be discovered. One driver may perhaps be issued a citation for numerous violations.

Even though the “Joining Forces” DUI Enforcement Campaign time period has ended, law enforcement personnel nationwide will continue patrolling roadways and neighborhoods to ensure public safety and security.
