Sheriff’s Office Investigates a Violent Domestic Dispute, Man Arrested for Attempted Murder

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of a violent domestic dispute between a man and women at approximately 8 AM. The physical altercation occurred on I-80, in the area of USA Parkway, in both the east bound and west bound directions.

During the investigation, Deputies learned that the male half, Alex Rivers, strangled his unidentified adult girlfriend while she was driving a 1982 grey colored Ford 4-door sedan east bound on I-80 at freeway speeds. The vehicle stalled as a result of the sudden altercation. Rivers stopped the physical attack at this time. The female started the car, turned around heading west bound on I-80, attempting to return to Reno when the vehicle stalled once again. This time the vehicle would not be started. At this time, Rivers continued with physical aggression towards the female. The assault finally came to a stop when an NHP Trooper arrived at their location. The female was examined by REMSA and is currently being assisted by the Sheriff’s Office Victim Advocate. A Sheriff’s Office Detective was called out to continue the investigation.

Rivers was arrested and transported to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility. Rivers was booked on three counts of Attempted Murder, three counts of Domestic Battery by Strangulation, three counts of Domestic Battery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Interference of an Emergency Call.
