Minden, NV…Justice of the Peace Tom Perkins announced today he will seek election to a full term as Justice of the Peace for East Fork Township. Judge Perkins was appointed in 2010. The East Fork Township includes all of Douglas County except the Lake Tahoe Basin.
Judge Perkins said he is grateful to serve, “This is a busy, challenging Court. People are held accountable for their actions in a firm and fair way. The Justice Court’s decisions help keep our community safe. Effective management of the Court assists in keeping the costs of local government down.” Perkins said he has taken concrete steps to establish effective working relationships with the other courts in Douglas County, law enforcement agencies, members of the bar and the public.
In addition to his current Justice Court service, Judge Perkins has 34 years courtroom experience, as a prosecutor, defense attorney and district judge. Tom Perkins has practiced law as a private attorney and a public lawyer. He has extensive trial and appellate experience throughout Nevada. Perkins has practiced law in Douglas County since 1983, and lived here almost 20 years. Perkins resides in Minden with his wife, Ellen. They have five daughters.
Judge Perkins attended high school in Tonopah and Sparks. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, and the University of Denver, College of Law. He attended the Hastings College of Advocacy, the National College for Criminal Defense, and the National Judicial College. He has served on many State Bar and Supreme Court committees, including the Standing Committee for Judicial Ethics and Campaign Practices and a special Supreme Court Committee that revised Nevada’s rules of criminal procedure.
