Washoe County Registrar of Voters Begins Preparation for Special Election on Tuesday, September 13, 2011

Washoe County Registrar of Voters Dan Burk has begun preparations for the Special Election on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, as directed by Nevada’s Secretary of State.

The Special Election is needed as a result of the appointment of former U.S. Congressman Dean Heller to fill U.S. Senator John Ensign`s vacated seat. Early voting will occur August 27th through September 9th. Registrar Burk estimates the cost to be approximately $350,000.

Registrar Burk also reminds voters if you have moved recently or changed your name, you will need to re-register to vote. Many voters mistakenly assume that once they have notified the US Post Office or Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles of their move, that this also changes their voter registration information. If you have moved, but haven’t re-registered with Washoe County you will not receive a sample ballot. You can re-register by mail, in-person at the Registrar of Voters Office, located in the Washoe County Administration Complex on Ninth Street in Reno or at a Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles location by completing the Change of Address for Voters form. In addition, the Change of Address for Voters form is available online at: www.washoecounty.us/voters/forms.htm
