Cooperative Extension Open House and Plant Faire Extravaganza

The Cooperative Extension office recently moved to the Energy Way building because its Mill Street building sits in the Truckee River flood zone. Its new location is about a mile south of its old Mill Street building. Energy Way is off of So. Edison Way, which is east of the airport and accessible from Mill Street to the north and Rock Boulevard to the south.

The Open House will be held in conjunction with the annual Master Gardener Plant Faire, which starts at 7am on May 21 at the Energy Way building.

In addition to the plant sale, the open house will feature a “Grocery Store Gardening” display by Horticulture Specialist Heidi Kratsch and free pressure canner gauge testing by Nutrition Specialist Kerry Seymour. Visitors can also learn more about various Extension programs, such as Living with Fire; the Nevada Radon Education Program; and various Children, Youth and Family programs. United States Department of Agriculture canning guides will be on sale, and there will be a display on food preservation and dehydrators.

Visitors will also be able to learn about Extension’s nutrition and tribal programs, as well as its Nonpoint Education Program for Municipal Officials (NEMO). The NEMO program helps land-use decision-makers understand the nature of nonpoint source pollution problems and how to correct them before development requires expensive retrofit projects.
