Senator Ted Gaines Comments on Governor’s Revised Budget

SACRAMENTO — Senator Ted Gaines (R-Roseville) today issued the following statement regarding the release of Governor Brown’s revised budget.

“Today, the Governor issued a revised May budget that goes too far on taxes and not far enough on reforms. The Governor has proposed increased spending, perpetuating the ‘tax, tax, tax’ philosophy that puts government before the people and scares off entrepreneurs who might invest here in California.”

“Job growth is the long-term solution to California’s problems and we need a tax system that encourages businesses to start and expand in our state.”

“The budget needs to go further to ensure the state will live within its means, preventing future budget catastrophes. Californians deserve much better.”

Despite $6.6 billion in unexpected tax revenue, the Governor’s proposal calls for multi-billion dollar tax increases in the sales tax, income tax and car tax (vehicle license fee) over the next five years.
