SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Beth Gaines, R-Roseville, today took the oath of office as the new representative for the 4th Assembly District at the State Capitol, pledging to work hard on the issues that matter most to her constituents.

“I was honored today to take the oath of office in Sacramento to represent the people of the 4th Assembly District,” Gaines said. “As their representative, my door will always be open to listen to their ideas and concerns on how we can solve California’s toughest challenges. I look forward to working with my Assembly colleagues to make government more accountable to the people, defend taxpayers from job-killing tax increases and implement policies that help Californians get back to work.”

Gaines said she will remain fully committed to protecting taxpayer’s resources during her tenure in the Assembly.

“I have chosen to voluntarily not accept per diem or use a state-issued car to carry out my responsibilities as your Assemblywoman,” Gaines said. “We as legislators should lead by example and tighten our belts and cut costs where we can to save taxpayer money.”

Even before she was sworn into office, Gaines hit the ground running to represent the 4th District. She sent a letter to Governor Brown urging him to declare a state of emergency in response to the recent breach of the Bear River Canal. The breach, which occurred on April 19, has significantly impacted the region’s agriculture economy, including local mandarin, rice and wine production. Gaines said she will work closely with the Brown Administration to help the region recover from the disaster.

Prior to her election, Gaines served as a successful marketing consultant for her family’s business, Point West Insurance Associates. She also previously worked in sales and marketing for a business supply company and gained management experience at a local branch of a national workforce employment firm. An active member of the community, she has volunteered for numerous charities and groups including the Child Abuse Prevention Council. Gaines was born and raised in Sacramento County, and is the mother of six children. She resides with her family in Roseville.

Gaines fills the vacancy left by the election of Ted Gaines to the State Senate in January. The 4th Assembly District includes the communities of Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Cameron Park, Placerville, Auburn, Loomis, South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe City.
