Sacramento, CA…As part of California’s historic Assembly Bill 3121 (AB 3121), the state’s Task Force to Study and Develop Reparations Proposals for African Americans will hold full-day public meetings on Tuesday, October 12 and Wednesday, October 13. The meetings build on a series of previous public hearings initially launched on June 1, the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre. The task force is a first-in-the-nation effort by a state government to take an expansive look at the institution of slavery and its present-day effects on the lives of Black Americans.
In addition to allowing for public comment, the task force will hear expert testimony on: (1) Housing and Education Segregation; (2) Environmental Racism; (3) Racism in Banking, Tax, and Labor; and (4) The Wealth Gap. More information about the task force and previous public hearings is available here: https://oag.ca.gov/ab3121/meetings.
