South Lake Tahoe, CA- On July 6, 2021, the South Lake Tahoe Police Detectives were notified by the Bank of America branch manager (located at 3344 Lake Tahoe Blvd. #1) that a skimming device was located inside their walkup ATM machine. The skimming device was located by an ATM service technician. The skimming device was collected and is being processed for evidence. The device was placed on the ATM within the past two weeks.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department would like to encourage all customers who may have used the walkup ATM at this specific Bank of America branch over the holiday weekend to check for any fraudulent activity on their bank accounts. If any fraudulent activity is discovered, you are encouraged to contact Bank of America immediately or contact the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and make a report. Other local banks were notified and asked to check their own ATM machines for possible skimming devices.
Skimming devices are small cards placed inside the card reader or covers placed over the card readers, most commonly found on ATM machines and gas pumps. These devices collect the credit/debit card information and can be transmitted to a receiver or recorded on the device to be collected later and used to commit fraud. This investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to call the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at 530-542-6100.
