South Lake Tahoe, CA…Next Monday, July 31, 2017, the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will begin the final phase of the Burke Creek Highway 50 Crossing and Realignment Project near Kahle Drive in Stateline, Nevada. The project to restore the Burke Creek channel and adjacent marsh aims to decrease the amount of sediment that flows into nearby Lake Tahoe and reduce the potential for flooding on U.S. Highway 50.

During this final phase, the LTBMU will use heavy equipment and ground crews to decommission approximately 500 feet of the old channel and connect the new channel to the culvert, which conveys Burke Creek under the highway and was installed in 2016.

Signs will be posted around the project area. The public is asked to use caution around heavy equipment and water control operations.

Project work is expected to be complete by mid-August.
