Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, WCHDSA, and AT&T Pioneers Host Third Annual Christmas in July Back-to-School Event for Local Children

Reno, NV…The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Washoe County Honorary Deputy Sheriffs Association and AT&T Pioneers, are excited to host the third annual Christmas in July Back-to-School Event Saturday, July 31, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.

THIS EVENT IS FREE TO ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN NEED.
Just in time for the 2021/2022 school year, Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam, deputies, and volunteers will provide roughly 600 students from the Northern Nevada area with backpacks, school supplies, hygiene items, lunch, and a little carnival fun in the sun!

Students from pre-kindergarten through high school will be welcome, and distribution will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

“The men and women of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office look forward to providing our future, our community’s children, with essentials for when school resumes,” said Sheriff Balaam. “We are thrilled to also provide a fun carnival-style event for the entire family. This truly is a celebration for our youth, and a kickoff to a good school year ahead.”

The inaugural Christmas in July in 2019 served 265 children. It was so popular that the second annual Christmas in July served 450 children. And last year’s event was a drive-through event due to COVID-19. Throughout the remainder of the year, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office was able to distribute the remaining 155 backpacks to children who were unable to make the event.

Face coverings are recommended, but no longer required for guests who are fully vaccinated. All guests, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office staff and volunteers who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear a face covering at all times except when actively eating or drinking.
