Washoe Sherriff’s Office, WCSAR & HASTY Conduct Successful, Difficult Rescue

Reno, CA…Washoe County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue volunteers just wrapped up a difficult rescue at the Hunter Creek Trail’s “Gully” up to Point 6247. Shortly after 11 o’clock this morning the call came in for a stranded 27 year old climber. The man is an experienced climber, but he didn’t have the proper equipment for this extremely steep, rocky climb. He found himself stuck in the middle of the hill unable to go up and unable to go down.

A team of a dozen WCSAR, HASTY volunteers and Search And Rescue staff worked what they call an “absolutely difficult rescue.” Using a high/low rope rescue, crews were able to get the man back onto the trail and walk out together at around 3 p.m.

Great work by all, and a reminder as more and more people head outdoors — never hesitate to call us for help.
