Governor Sisolak Gets his COVID-19 Vaccine, Encourages all Eligible Nevadans to Make a Plan

Las Vegas, CA…Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak received his COVID-19 vaccination alongside frontline grocery store workers in Southern Nevada. “Grocery store workers have been essential to all Nevadans throughout the Pandemic, and unlike others, were not able to work from home,” Gov. Sisolak said. “They are heroes who helped our State get through this historic crisis by adjusting their hours to maintain social distancing and decrease crowding and working overtime to stock shelves and make sure the stores were clean and safe for customers. They’ve had to deal with customers who didn’t want to wear face coverings or were upset when supplies ran low. They define frontline and essential, and I am proud that Nevada has prioritized them for vaccination. It was an honor to receive my COVID-19 vaccine today alongside these heroes.”

The Governor was eligible both due to his age and his occupation, according to the Nevada COVID-19 Vaccine Playbook. The Governor was immunized alongside frontline grocery story workers, who are eligible under the “end-to-end essential goods supply chain” category within the “Frontline/Essential Workforce” prioritization lane.

The Governor was joined by leadership from United Food and Commercial Workers (U.F.C.W.) Local 711, which has helped ensure their membership is aware of opportunities for vaccination.

The Governor and frontline workers received the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine – also commonly called the Johnson & Johnson or J&J shot. This vaccine only requires one dose and has been shown to prevent severe COVID-19 illness, hospitalization and death.

In late February this third vaccine was reviewed and authorized for use by the Food and Drug Administration and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has issued interim recommendations for the use of the vaccine.

During the event, the Governor encouraged all Nevadans who are eligible for the vaccine to take advantage of the opportunity and to make an appointment and accept any vaccine available. Nevadans can visit NVCOVIDFighter.org or call 1.800.401.0946 to learn more.
