Avalanche Training January 25th, Hosted By North Lake Tahoe Fire District

Incline Village, CA…The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District will be hosting Avalanche Training on Wednesday, January 25th, along with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, Reno Fire Department Urban Search & Rescue Team, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, Mount Rose Ski Patrol and Diamond Peak Ski Patrol. The training will be held at NV SR 431, Mt. Rose Summit, on the back road into Mt. Rose Ski Area across from the summit restroom parking lot. The drill area is within a few minutes’ walk. First responders will be training utilizing an avalanche scenario that will include organizing and efficient rescue on transceiver and RECCO search, probe line organization, burial removal techniques, and depending on availability, utilization of a search and rescue dog.

“This annual refresher training allows agencies to review, practice and participate in hands-on avalanche training drills utilizing a practical scenario that replicates rescue situations,” said Engineer Dave Melkonian, who coordinates this annual training.

In the event of extreme weather or unforeseen events, the training event may be cancelled or rescheduled.
