Armed Gardnerville Man Dies In Officer Involved Shooting

Gardnerville, NV…Today at about 2:00 p.m. Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated the report that a Gardnerville Ranchos Resident, Mark Perkins age 48, was armed with multiple weapons and had threatened his wife and told her he was going to shoot a police officer and also told her he intended to kill a neighbor. Subsequent to this investigation DCSO obtained an arrest warrant for Perkins for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and a search warrant for his residence located at 930 Monument Peak Drive in the Gardnerville Ranchos.

Due to the circumstances of the investigation the S.W.A.T. and Crisis Negotiation Teams (CNT) were activated to serve the warrants.

At about 5:30 p.m. members of the SWAT team were deploying to secure the suspect residence and evacuate surrounding homes when Perkins came out of his home armed and confronted the Deputies. At some point during the confrontation Perkins pointed two weapons at multiple officers. The officers fired their weapons and Perkins was struck by the Deputies gunfire and died at the scene.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has requested that the Carson City Sheriff’s Office conduct the criminal investigation of the officer involved shooting.

The six Deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave in accordance to Department Policies governing the use of deadly force. In accordance with this same policy the names of the involved Deputies will be withheld for 48 hours.
