UCLA faculty honored by TACH “Award of Excellence”

TACH celebrated a four day event “Global Music and Dance” in July, 2014 with the association of Artown, Reno.

In the series of these four day event on July 26th, 2014 TACH present it’s 2nd “Award of Excellence” @ Laxalt Auditorium. The number of excited audiences presents in this event was unexpected. The hall was almost full.

The event starts with the welcome speech of Tanya Singh who lightened about TACH. She said that TACH – Traditional Association for Cultural Harmony promotes World Music and Dance along with artist management, concert, seminar, festivals, workshop, music education and development of traditional cultural harmony. She also introduced the visiting artists of this event.

The Chief Guest Beth Macmillan, an executive director of Artown grace the occassion with her presence and give the “Award of Excellence” to Abhiman Kaushal from Los Angeles – an outstanding tabla (drum) player. He has recorded a soundtrack for National Geographic’s Man Eaters of North India, for Zoolander movie and has performed for MTV’s Aerosmith icon show in front of live audience.  Abhiman recorded and performed with Pt. Ravishankar and Philip Glass. He is currently on faculty at UCLA and UCR as director of the North Indian Classical Music ensembles.

Event starts with the melodious sound of Kachhapi Veena played by world famous artist and a founder / president of TACH  Chakrapani Singh. Chakrapani Singh is a passionate guitarists and is truly a rare instrumentalists with a unique repertoire ranging from traditional, classical compositions on the slide guitar to his innovative, renditions on the Kachappi Veena. He played Raag Yaman. Singh was accompanied by TACH award winner Abhiman Kaushal. Audiences were  spellbound and gripped with the performance.

The event followed by the musical sounds of Adam Levy a guitarist/songwriter in high demand and whose playing has been featured on recordings by major label artists such as Norah Jones and many mare. His song “Got My Joy” electrify audiences in all the events. Jimmy Robinson who appeared in concert with John Maclaughlin, Mahavishnu Orchestra and many more. His style of playing amazed everyone. Sushmita Srikanth (A Bharatnatyam Dancer who is performing over the last fourteen years in several venues and many of company productions). She performed on some famous stories of India.

Earlier on July 12th,2014 the 1st event of the series was at Center for Spiritual Living where the great artists Dallas Smith, Susan Major and Chakrapani Singh performed and was accompanied by Peter Fairley.

The 2nd event was @ India Kabab and Curry where Adam Levy hold the stage.

The concluding event was on July 27th,2014 @ Reno Budhhist Center. The Chief Guest Stacy Endres, a board member of Nevada Arts Council glorify the occasion by presenting the Award Certificates to the visiting artists of TACH. All the artists show their marvelous performances. The show ends up with a short but unforgettable fusion music played by Chakrapani Singh and Jimmy Robinson.

The audiences were enchanted and hooked with all the artists performances.

The events was a grand success with the collaboration of Indo-American and the visiting artists.
