South Lake Tahoe, Ca…Local agencies are partnering to launch an “Adopt-a-Beach-Tahoe” program that will coordinate beach clean-up dates regularly from June 15 to September 15.

The City of South Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, League to Save Lake Tahoe, the US Forest Service Basin Management Unit, and Douglas County have developed the theme, “Caring is Cool – Lake Tahoe’s clarity starts with you, and there are a number of ways to help!”  Debris on Lake Tahoe’s beaches affects everyone’s enjoyment of this beautiful natural treasure. Debris on the beaches and streets can easily find its way to the lake and adversely impact lake clarity, water quality, and wildlife. Public participation is part of basin-wide environmental stewardship initiatives.

The adoption of this program is a result of the recent concern over the fireworks display clean-up efforts in Lake Tahoe. Multiple community members and service groups voiced their support during times of high usage.

Groups, organizations, business, families, or individuals are invited to participate in clean-up efforts. Supplies will include buckets and trash grabber tools, which will be available at both Lake Tahoe Visitor Centers in California (3066 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150) and Nevada (169 Highway 50, Stateline, NV 89449).

Debris will be collected, recorded, and deposited at designated locations. Adopted areas will post a sign that recognizes businesses/organization efforts. To ensure sufficient supplies will be available for volunteers, please call in advance at 530-544-5050 ext. 223.

The Adopt a Beach program and the Special Clean up Days launch will be May 28th at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.
