Drowning Man Rescued Near Docks in Tahoe Keys

South Lake Tahoe, CA (July 20, 2013) – On July 15, 2013 a man was seen swimming near the boat docks in the Tahoe Keys. Witnesses recognized that he was in trouble and called 911. South Lake Tahoe Fire Department responded and was escorted out to where the patient was last seen. Dan Schmidt from El Dorado County search and rescue and SLTFD personnel witnessed the man go under as they were approaching and dove in. They swam down approximately 10 feet and retrieved the man then pulled him onto the boat. They utilized a new device designed to provide mechanical compressions to patients requiring CPR called the Auto-Pulse. The Auto-Pulse is a new addition to the equipment compliment on all South Lake Tahoe and Lake Valley ambulances and was purchased by the Cal Tahoe JPA.

The near drowning victim was revived with CPR en route to the hospital and eventually flown to Renown in Reno. He experienced a full recovery and was since released.
