Public Workshop Slated For Tahoe Basin Community Plan Update

Tahoe City, CA…Placer County continues to update its Community/General Plans for the Tahoe Basin by holding another Town Hall Meeting on Wed., Feb., 6, 2013, at Granlibakken in Tahoe City. County staff will provide a status report on Community Plan Update effort and present all work that has been completed to date. Representatives from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) will also attend the meeting and make a presentation.

Placer County is consolidating its existing nine community plans into a single policy document with four sub-planning areas. The nine plans were joint planning documents developed 20 years ago by the county and the TRPA. The single document is the overarching Tahoe Basin Community Plan that is being developed. The four consolidated planning areas are:

North Tahoe East, which covers Kings Beach and the Stateline community;
Greater Tahoe City, which includes Tahoe City, Tahoe City Gateway, Lake Forest, and Dollar Hill;
North Tahoe West, which includes Carnelian Bay and Tahoe Vista; and
The West Shore, which includes Sunnyside, Homewood and Tahoma.

Teams composed of community members have been working on issues specific to the four planning areas. Each planning area will have its own distinct zoning ordinance and community-specific design guidelines. The draft zoning district standards for each team were developed by a consultant working with the county. These standards reflect the work done by the teams.

County Planning staff also gave an update on the Tahoe Basin Community Basin Update to the county Board of Supervisors at their Tahoe meeting this week. Staff reported on the specifics of a presentation made to the Placer County Planning Commission earlier this month. At that meeting the Commission conducted a public workshop to receive public input on the Community Plan update and to provide direction to staff.

TRPA has recently updated its regional plan, and the County’s Tahoe Basin Community Plan will be consistent with the regional plan.

Granlibakken Conference Center is at 725 Granlibakken Rd., in Tahoe City. The meeting is at 6 pm, For additional information about the meeting, please contact Supervising Planner Crystal Jacobsen at 530-745-3000.
