November 16, 2011(Portola, Calif.) — It took Tom Ralston of Rocklin, Ca. just one click – not even a swing, to score a year of free golf throughout the 2012 season at Grizzly Ranch Golf Club (www.grizzlyranch.com), one of Northern California’s most scenic and challenging courses.
Over 500 golf enthusiasts entered an online promotion for a chance to win free golf for a year at the private championship course in Portola, CA, near the Graeagle area.
Ralston, 53, started playing golf when he was 8. Owner of an ADP security franchise in Rocklin, Calif. he currently carries a 15 handicap. He spends weekends golfing at Cherry Island Golf Course in Elverta, Calif.
“My most memorable golf outings were with my dad in the Sierras,” said Ralston. “I can’t wait to share the same experiences with my two sons at Grizzly Ranch.” Tom plans to spend a few weekends in Portola while taking advantage of his unlimited golf at the 18-hole, Bob Cupp designed championship course.
Grizzly Ranch is a spectacular course set against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mountains. In 2005, Golf Week rated it as one of the nation’s Best New Courses. While a private course, Grizzly Ranch welcomes daily guest play after 10 a.m. A special introductory rate was also offered to all Northern California Golf Association members at $99 per round, (regularly $125) plus a free Grizzly Ranch cap. The course and area are popular for small group getaways, tournaments, couples and families.
The quiet beauty, unhurried pace and challenge of the par 72 championship layout is striking and strategically conceived. With tree-lined fairways, panoramic mountain views, water on six holes and fast, bent-grass greens, it presents a fair and enjoyable test for all levels of play.
Located about four hours from the Bay Area and 45 minutes from Truckee and Reno, Grizzly Ranch is the only private golf and recreational community in the Western Sierra Feather River Country, surrounded by more than a million acres of pristine national and state forestlands.
The club also features a practice area, complete with driving range, putting and chipping greens. The Lodge includes a health club and swimming pool, and, the Golf Sports Shop offers the latest sporting attire and equipment.
With only 380 home sites on 1,400 acres, nearly a square mile of Grizzly Ranch is dedicated to open space, trails and the emerald expanse of the golf course. The nearby area provides a plethora of fishing and outdoors activities, nearby restaurants, shopping and historic area attractions.
