More than 7,500 riders will board the magical holiday train on the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, the only officially licensed Polar Express event in the region this holiday season.

“We knew the train would be a strong holiday attraction,” said Candy Duncan, Executive Director of the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau. “It will be a nice gift to area businesses as well.”

While the Polar Express™ is sold out the Virginia and Truckee Railroad does offer another holiday diesel train ride. The Comstock Christmas Train, a colorful holiday tradition in Virginia City, will run Dec. 3, 4 and 10, 11. Passengers will be treated to Christmas music, hot chocolate and cider served by elves. Meanwhile, Carson City is gearing up for the holiday season with a plethora of family-oriented activities, concerts and theater performances.

Santa Claus will make his annual appearance by train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Dec. 10 and 11; from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Santa and helpers will ride along the track loop and visit with passengers aboard the historic V&T steam train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, in Carson City. The Nutcracker Ballet tradition continues with The Pinkerton Ballet Theatre during the 23rd annual production of this holiday classic, at the Carson City Community Center. The Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights is Dec. 3 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. when thousands of Nevadans annually descend on the Nevada State Capital steps to sing holiday carols and celebrate the Christmas tree lighting. Following the festivities, merchants from around downtown Carson City roll out their holiday fare, making the event a night full of old fashioned Nevada camaraderie and cheer.
