Gardnerville, NV… The fire burning in south Gardnerville, near the Pine View Estates residential area, has grown to approximately 2,000 acres.
The fire, which initially burned south, away from the Pine View Estates residential area, has turned and is now moving northeast.
The fire is approximately 200 yards away from Conner Way, the closest residential street to the fire. The fire is moving parallel to Conner Way, but does not appear to be getting closer to any residences. Voluntary evacuation by residents is recommended, however no mandatory evacuations have been ordered. Access to the Pine View Estates residential area is restricted to residents only (valid picture ID with proof of residency required).
The fire is approximately 20% contained at this time; and it is not known how long it will take for full containment.
Air crews have suspended operations for the evening, and will continue again tomorrow morning. Ground fire crews will continue their operations throughout the night.
If air crews are still needed in the morning, recreational boating on Lake Topaz will be suspended for the day due to helicopters needing to pick water from the lake.
U.S. Hwy 395 is expected to be re-opened this evening around 11:00 pm.
There have been no reported injuries or homes damaged as a result of this fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and remains under investigation.
Approximately 300 federal, state and local firefighters are involved in fighting this fire, and approximately 35 law enforcement and Search & Rescue personnel are assisting.
