During the last week of July, utility crews for the Central Truckee Meadows Remediation District (CTMRD) program will be drilling and obtaining soil vapor samples at multiple sites located along Sullivan Lane in Sparks. This work will result in a temporary travel lane closure.
Traffic control will be in effect at the following location on Wednesday, July 27, 2011: – Sullivan Lane between I Street and Merchant Street – northbound traffic will be diverted into the center lane.
The Central Truckee Meadows Remediation District (CTMRD) program identifies sources of tetrachloroethene (PCE) contamination that could impact groundwater in the central Truckee Meadows and works to prevent PCE from entering groundwater used for our municipal water supply.
PCE is an industrial solvent that has been in use since the 1930s. Over time, its improper use and disposal has impacted groundwater in the central Truckee Meadows, posing a potential human health risk. The activities of the CTMRD program, including this soil gas testing, will reduce the risk to public health and minimize the time and costs associated with groundwater treatment.
